Conflict of Interest Reporting
and related University policies
including professional consulting and additional workload, and nepotism

About the Committee:

The Committee on Ethical Oversight was appointed by President White in June of 2005 and charged with reviewing, revising, and developing policies on conflicts of interest, nepotism and ethical conduct. This charge to the committee stemmed from a recognition that the University’s polices were in need of an overview and updating. The committee began by reviewing policies at other institutions and comparing and contrasting those policies with our own. After preparing draft policies, members of the Committee met with various university groups to answer questions and solicit input.

In the spring of 2007, the Committee brought draft policies before Faculty Council. Faculty Council suggested some edits and voiced general support for the policies, but asked that we also seek input from Staff Affairs and Faculty Affairs. The Committee presented the draft policies to Staff Affairs on September 6, 2007 and to Faculty Affairs on October 3, 2007. Input from each meeting was considered and the draft policies revised based on that input. The Committee brought the draft policies back to Faculty Council on October 23, and November 6, 2007 and obtained approval to bring the policy to the November 26, 2007 General Faculty Meeting. These policies became effective January 1, 2008, following President White’s approval.
